Antique Bohemian Garnet and Agate Marquetry Double Sided Locket
Details: An interesting late Victorian double sided locket in 14k gold. One side features a kaleidoscope mosaic of hard stone agate marquetry in creamy neutral colors with accents of green. The mosaic is haloed by a frame of vibrant rose cut Bohemian garnets. The other side is adorned with a large striped agate in rich dark brown with white stripes. On this side the garnet's bezels becomes a curvy frame for the striped agate. The locket is functioning and closes with a secure click. This is a very collectable and unusual piece.
Bohemia was a kingdom that later became Czechoslovakia and was know for the beautiful garnets found there that were particularly popular in the late Victorian through turn-of-the-20th century.
Measurements: The locket is about 1.5" tall (including the bale) and 1.25" wide.
Origin: Mid-European, c. 1890's.
