Antique Victorian 15k Ridged Link Albert Chain - 16.5"
Details: This Victorian Albert chain is so chic and substantial. It is comprised of 16.5" of heavy 15k gold ridged links and finished with drop down t-bar. Today these watch chains are often worn as necklaces and the leaver clip closures allow the necklace to be clasped. Pendants can be hung from the t-bar and/or the lever clips or it is equally lovely worn on it's own.
This type of watch chain was popularized by Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria. The t-bar is placed through the buttonhole of the wearer's buttoned waistcoat and anchors the watch chain in place. The wearers watch was attached to one end and tucked into a small pocket. The other end of the chain was hung with important pendants such as the family seal and other significant or decorative charms.
Measurements: The chain is 16.5" long. The t-bar is approximately 1 1/2" wide and drops down about 3/4" of an inch.
Origin: English, c. late 1800's.
