Antique 15k Blue Enamel and Diamond Ouroboro Brooch Details: A sculptural 15k gold, deep blue enamel Victorian ouroboro, or snake swallowing its own tail, brooch. This pin features a larger old mine cut diamond set into the snake's head and two old European-cut diamonds embellishing the snakes sinuous curves. Two rhodolite garnets shine in the snakes eyes. The brooch is in very good antique condition and is a bold and gorgeous statement piece. Historically snakes have always been revered as powerful symbols of rebirth and transformation, dating back to the early Egyptians. The ouroboro traditionally signified eternity and the renewal of life and during the Victorian era serpent motifs came to symbolize eternal love. Snake jewelry and rings in particular became extremely popular in the mid-1800's due to widespread admiration for Queen Victoria's emerald-set snake engagement ring. Measurements: The brooch is 2.5" wide, 1.5" tall. Origin: English, c. 1860's.
