Antique Victorian 14k Black Enamel and Rose Cut Diamond Lily of the Valley Motif Bracelet
Details: This beautiful Victorian black enamel bracelet features a delicate spray of lily-of-the-valley with rose cut diamonds set into the flower’s buds. There is fine engraving on the edges of the bracelet and also around the hinge and closure. The enamel is on both sides, has been polished and is in very good antique condition. The bracelet closes with a satisfying click and a safety chain provides further security.
Most likely a mourning piece, this piece was probably worn in remembrance of someone who passed. At Metier we have always been enamored with these beautiful and sentimental treasures. Mourning pieces were considered to celebrate the person’s life and were worn as a loving tribute. The motif here is known as the May lily. It symbolizes "return to happiness" and most often means happiness, luck and humility. Paired with the black it can also denote sadness.
Measurements: The bracelet is 1/2" wide and has a 6" interior diameter so it’s best for a small wrist. However it is meant to fit snug so it doesn’t turn.
Origin: American c. 1870-1880.
