Antique Victorian 18k Diamond Navette Ring
Details: This charming marquise-shaped or navette - French for boat - ring features beautiful European cut diamonds set in slightly pink-hued gold. The frame detail shows a central row of five diamonds - surrounded by a second outer border of 16 prong set diamonds. The band gracefully graduates in width from the shoulders to the shank.
The style - quite popular in the Victorian era - originated in the 1700's when King Louis XV requested a cut/style of ring that emulated the smile of his mistress.
Measurements: The ring size is 5.5. The navette is 21mm tall and 9mm wide. This ring has several hallmarks, including the crown for England, 18 for 18k, and the shield for Chester.
Origin: English, c. 1897.
