Aesthetic Movement occurred in the late 1800's - 1901. The idea behind the movement was art for art's sake, striving to profess that the arts should provide refined sensuous pleasure and celebrate beauty. The movement rose in contrast to the heavily nostalgic and often dark Victorian period. Prominent use of flowers, leaves and birds as well as new appreciation for the Japanese arts were common themes.
