Antique Victorian 18k & Diamond Double Snake Band
Details: A stunning and bold 18k double-headed snake ring. The European cut white diamonds - three are featured within the head of each snake - taper gradually in size. The ring sits low on the hand and works well alone or stacked.
Snakes have been strong religious and royal symbols since early Egyptian times. In the Victorian era, serpent motifs came to symbolize eternal love. Snake jewelry and rings in particular became extremely popular in the mid-1800's due to wide spread admiration for Queen Victoria's emerald-set snake engagement ring.
Measurements: The ring size is 7. The ring is just under 1/2" tall at front.
Origin: English, c. 1890's. Hallmarks include a crown for England, a lion's head for London, 18 for 18k - the maker's mark and date letter are present but worn and difficult to decipher.
