Details: These distinctive storm-colored beads are specimens of fine banded agate from Scotland.  Made for a fashionable lady of her time who took her fashion queues from Queen Victoria, they are timelessly chic. These beads were hand carved from beautiful material ranging in color from pale grey to honey, each bead is beautifully unique.

When Victoria and Albert visited Scotland in 1842, they were enchanted with the welcome they received from the Scots. Victoria absolutely fell in love with the country, bought Balmoral Castle, and incorporated Scottish art and themes into the royal identity. Scottish agate became a Victorian must-have, used for all kinds of jewelry and precious objects. The endlessly interesting nature and variation of agate allowed for countless iterations.

Origin: English/Scottish, c. late 1800's.
