Details: This lovely late Victorian/Aesthetic Movement sterling silver bangle bracelet is festooned with a variety of meaningful flowers in finely executed enamel. In this era nature lent its subtle grace for words dared not spoken in a time of restraint. Flowers were a way to proudly display your feelings. Nosegays and corsages were never just bouquets of pretty flowers, they told the world how you felt. Here daffodils symbolized unrequited love, cyclamen signal deep affection and morning glory represents love or love in vain.

The bangle's mechanism opens and closes with a satisfying snap, the edges are rounded for comfort and the back of the bracelet is clean.  The there is age appropriate wear to the silver and the enamel is in very good condition. This style of bangle is meant to fit snug to the wrist so it doesn't turn. A truly stellar and collectable one-of-a-kind piece.

Measurements: The bangle is .8" wide and 6.3" internal circumferance.

Origin: C. 1890's - 1900's, English.

Time Period: Aesthetic Movement was the last time period of the Victorian Era. It occurred in the late 1800's - 1901. The idea behind the Aesthetic Movement was art for art's sake, striving to profess that the arts should provide refined sensuous pleasure and celebrate beauty. The Victorian Era was defined by sentiment and romance and you see that here. The modern woman of the early 1900's was more independent and casual and she wanted jewelry that reflected her lifestyle. Prominent use of flowers, leaves and birds as well the Japanese arts were common themes.
